What is Split Beans?
Split Beans is a; two-player, RTS, split-screen project that aims to create a rapid and competitive experience and discover new emergent interactions.
Project Goals:
To have a playable (roughly 5 minute) demo available with engaging gameplay and well balanced economies.
Why am I making this?
I want to see whether the RTS genre can work with a split-screen competitive element applied and explore what unique behaviours can arise from the merging of the two genres.
What have I learned from this? So far.
- Split screen in Unreal knowledge
- Balancing basic economies
- RTS foundational knowledge
- Basic AI movement knowledge
Emergent Gameplay from this so far:
- Players will screen peak so no need for fog of war.
- Minimap can be shared as two minimaps would be unnecessary.
- Competitive as players can actively see what the other is doing at any time and can counter it accordingly.
